The Real ID Act was put in place to increase security and reduce fraud. That meant they could keep the license of their home state and use their Florida license while in this state. It used to be that a part-time Florida resident could come here, apply for a driver license and receive one that is valid in Florida only. The federal requirement mandates that part-time residents no longer can hold an out-of-state driver license and a Florida driver license simultaneously. LaRiviere is among many new or part-time Florida residents who will be forced to comply with the federal Real ID Act, which went into effect in Florida on Nov. 'I wanted to keep it in case I moved back but they made me give it up,' said LaRiviere, 21. LaRiviere, who wasn't sure if she was going to permanently stay in Florida, was reluctant but she complied. When Brittany LaRiviere applied for a Florida driver license after moving to Bonita Springs in July, she had to give up her Ohio license.
